SBR rubber stoppers are heavy-duty, general-purpose laboratory and industrial bungs made from an economical synthetic styrene-butadiene rubber copolymer. Formulated to serve as a uniform alternative to natural rubber, these tapered plugs provide a highly resilient and tight compression seal for container openings, flasks, and piping system bores. SBR rubber stoppers are known for their exceptional impact resistance, excellent water sealing capacity, and superior mechanical durability under repeated insertion and removal cycles.
SBR Rubber Stopper Recommended UsesGeneral laboratory glassware sealing, biological and instructional lab bottles, industrial vial capping, water and aqueous solution storage, plumbing pressure testing, tube and conduit isolation, and non-critical sealing environments requiring excellent abrasion and tear resistance.
SBR Rubber Stopper Not RecommendedPetroleum-based oils, fuels (diesel and gasoline), organic solvents, volatile hydrocarbons, strong oxidizing acids, high-voltage electrical environments, and autoclaving or heat sterilization procedures.
SBR Rubber Stopper Limitations
- Highly vulnerable to severe swelling, softening, and structural failure when exposed to hydrocarbon solvents or grease.
- Poor baseline resistance to high-concentration ozone, environmental weathering, and direct UV aging without chemical stabilizers.
- Lacks a broad thermal envelope, demonstrating lower upper-limit temperature tolerance than silicone or fluorocarbon elastomers.
- Non-autoclavable and not suitable for medical applications requiring high-heat sterilization or strict inertness.
