Neoprene (Chloroprene) O-rings are made from a synthetic rubber compound produced by the polymerization of chloroprene. These seals are known for their excellent balance of mechanical properties and resistance to environmental degradation. Neoprene o-rings provide superior resistance to sun, ozone, and weather, along with good tearing resistance and moderate resistance to oils and chemicals, making them ideal for general-purpose industrial and marine applications.
Neoprene Recommended UsesSeals and gaskets, marine applications, refrigeration systems (Freon/refrigerants), HVAC equipment, outdoor weathering applications, moderate oil and chemical exposure, and general industrial sealing.
Neoprene Not RecommendedStrong oxidizing acids, ketones, esters, chlorinated hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons (like benzene), and nitro hydrocarbons.
Neoprene Limitations
- Limited resistance to strong chemicals and oxidizing agents.
- Prone to degradation when exposed to polar solvents and certain fuels.
- Inferior high-temperature performance compared to fluorocarbon elastomers.
- Can absorb moisture over extended periods in specific underwater applications.
-40 to 250°F (-40 to 121°C)
